a girl walks down the street looking straight ahead. a guy walks by her and when she is one step away from walking by him, he says under his breath, "hey baby" or "hey gorgeous" or "good morning baby." why do guys do this? and they're never the cute guys the girls are interested in. they're the sketchy guys on their way to who knows where. what does the guy think is going to happen? does he think the girl is going to turn around and give him a big kiss and take him home with her? i don't get it. the guy always says something when the girl is clearly trying to avoid the guy or when they are passing each other on the street, at that second when you're shoulder to shoulder, so that if the girl was to respond, she would have to turn around immediately to get his attention.
and it's encounters from those guys that makes me thankful i have an ipod. every morning, as soon as i leave my apartment building, i take out my ipod and plug in my music. it blocks out any noise i don't need to hear and it keeps me relaxed on my daily commute to and from work. days i don't have my ipod on, i notice sketchy guys saying things to me under their breath as i walk by and i don't like it. and every girl in the city get this from guys. i even have a friend who sometimes wears her ipod with the sound off, just so she could stay alert and hear what's going on, but not let the guys think she could hear what they say to her. and outside of the city, guys will drive by and yell out of their cars or honk their horns. what are those guys thinking? do they think the girl walking on the sidewalk is going to turn around and flash the guy and jump in the car with him? i just don't get it.

Kristen, please accept my sincere apology, for I am one of those guys. It's nothing more than a compulsive habit, I assure you. And it's only reserved for boring carpool rides home. I'd never have the audacity to yell it out the window (or to someone on the sidewalk)... but I can't help but stating "Hey baby" in my finest Butthead-voice whenever I see an attractive woman. It helps make the drive home more amicable. :)
oh, i don't get it either. i do the same thing sometimes with my ipod- have it shut off, or with the volume to it's lowest, to at least appear preoccupied.
