the city

i have changed a lot in the past few years. and i owe a lot of that to moving to new york city. people say if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. i hope that is true.

this city is independence. i moved here on my own, only knowing 2 people in the city and only having visited one time 9 years earlier for a one-day trip. i found an apartment 3 weeks before i moved with one of the two people i knew in the city and found a job 1 1/2 weeks after moving here. everything was new. my apartment, my roomate, my job, the subway, the streets, the noises, the people. it was overwhelming, but i was excited and i knew this was where i needed to be. i was starting over, just like so many other people living in manhattan.

and my few years living here have been the best of my life, thanks to the city and the people i've met. i think the ny skyline is beautiful, the endless stores and restaurants are unparalled, and the people are incredible. whether i'm sitting in the park or walking down the street by myself, i don't feel alone because the city is never empty. and when i'm out with my friends, i'm happy that i have people to enjoy the sights, places, and drinks with. i'm grateful to the city for the changes it has made in me. i'm independent, confident, happy, and inspired.

i never thought i would live in new york and i definately didn't think i would be living here for as long as i have (2 years and 5 months to be exact). and this city is addicting. the longer i live here, the more i like it, and the more i miss it when i'm away, and the harder it gets to think of myself living somewhere else. i live in the most sought after zip code in the city, in a tiny apartment that hasn't been renovated for 50 years that costs more than i like to admit to people who live outside of new york, but it's my home. i like my job - it can be entertaining, it's young, and it doesn't consume my life. but most of all, i love my friends. i would never have met people like them anywhere else. they are all different, fun, loyal, and amazing. i'm glad i've met them and i look forward to the new friends i know i will make. i love them, and i love new york city. they have made me who i am today and will always be a part of who i am.
